BMW 1 SERIES

Compact BMW Performance, From Analog Roots to Modern Tech

The BMW 1-Series was BMW’s answer to a simple question:
What if we built the smallest, most driver-focused BMW possible?

For many enthusiasts, the 1-Series represents the last truly compact, rear-wheel-drive BMW, blending short wheelbases, strong engines, and minimal excess. Later generations evolve toward modern efficiency and front-wheel-drive architecture, marking a clear philosophical shift.

E82 / E88 – The Original 1-Series (2008–2013)

After 2013, BMW discontinued the 1-Series in the U.S. market. When the next-generation 1-Series platform was introduced globally in 2020, BMW adapted it for the U.S. as the 2-Series Gran Coupe. While the name changed, this front-wheel-drive-based sedan represents the return of BMW’s entry-level compact platform in the United States.
